Re-Grouting Versus Cleaning for Grout in Bathrooms & Showers
At Tile Rescue, we live for clean grout!
We’re often asked to clean the grout in bathrooms and showers.
Our advice to our clients often, however, is to re-grout the tiles - especially in the shower.
We know that this advice can be confronting. Replacing the grout can sound like a major project. "...But can’t you just clean it? Is something our clients often say..."
Yes, we could ‘just clean it’. But the grout, depending on its condition, is usually dis-coloured, cracked or missing in places. Grout can be cleaned – but the stains and its general condition will remain the same.
I just want my grout to be clean! Why should I re-grout it?
When grout in damp tiled areas becomes mould-affected, dis-coloured, cracked or crumbly, the only way to achieve a consistent clean-looking result is to replace the grout.
Tile grout is porous. It can easily absorb marks and stains from moisture and mould over time. And, over time, your dedicated scrubbing with cleaners and bleaches may actually damage, dis-colour and weaken your grout.
Missing grout often looks like dirty grout
Dark patches in grout lines can easily be mistaken for dirt or mould. A close inspection can reveal the holes and cracks in the grout. Rigorous cleaning will only further damage the grout that remains - and the only way to remove dark patches caused by missing grout is to fill the holes with new grout!
Re-grouting the tiles in your shower and bathroom is an affordable solution
The colour of professionally-cleaned grout will still look different, or inconsistent in places, if it is old and stained. New grout provides an even, consistent colour and new Tile Rescue grout also provides sanitation and stain resistance.
Andrew at Tile Rescue – Wollongong Northern Illawarra is a tile and grout maintenance technician. He can re-grout an average-sized shower and bathroom in a day – as well as replace the silicone and poly seals in the shower and around the bath and vanity.
The re-grouting and tile cleaning process will make a well-loved bathroom look new again and save you thousands of dollars compared to a new bathroom renovation. Even old, dated tiles can look completely different surrounded by new grout in a fresh, up–to-date colour.
Re-grouting and replacing old silicone seals in your shower and bathroom is also important and essential home maintenance.
Missing grout and old, damaged seals are a common cause of leaking showers and, if left unattended, a leaking shower can damage your timbers, paintwork and carpet. Mould and moisture not only looks unsightly but creates the perfect environment for mites etc which can lead to respiratory and other health issues.
Re-grouting is the best, most cost-effective solution to achieve clean, consistent-looking grout in your bathroom.
Re-grouting will rejuvenate your bathroom and shower, save you money on major renovations, save time and money on future home maintenance as well as deliver superb, consistent results.
